Dialogue

I wrote this in September of ’08 for a Christian Writer’s Guild assignment.

“Bye mom!” Shauna called as she grabbed the car keys and started out the door.

“Wait a minute, young lady,” Shauna’s mom caught her in the doorway, “Where do you think you’re going?” She arched her eyebrows giving Shauna that oh-so-familiar mother look.

“To Matt’s party,” Shauna answered.

“Matt?”

“Yeah, you know; the tall, cute, blonde guy from school?” Shauna shifted and leaned against the doorframe. “He’s having like, food and games at his house and the whole school was invited.”

“Shauna, how well do you know this…Matt?”

“Well, he’s a junior, the same grade as me, and, well, he’s cute!” Shauna smiled and winked at her mom, then after getting another “look”, she reasoned, “Chill out mom, it’s not like anything is going to happen. Other kids will be there too. My friends will be there.”

“Will Matt’s parents be home?” Mom said.

Shauna rolled her eyes. “I don’t know!” She sighed loudly. “I need to get going or I’ll be late. I told Chelsea I’d be there at seven.”

“You are not going anywhere until you finish what you’re supposed to do tonight. You still have homework, and you need to fold those clothes.” Mom’s raised voice usually either meant she was angry or worried. Shauna guessed it was a mixture of both, but felt no empathy for her mother at the moment.

“Why can’t I do that tomorrow?” Shauna complained.

“That’s what you’ve been saying for the past week!” Mom practically yelled. “You need to do it tonight.”

Shauna stormed back inside and slammed the door. “Or you could fold clothes for once!”

“I don’t think I should allow you to go after using that tone with me,” Mom said. “You will not be going to that party and that’s that.”

Shauna tossed the car keys across the table, and they flew off the other side and onto the floor. Shauna didn’t care. She ran up the stairs and slammed the door to her room as loud as she could.

Sorry for the abrupt ending; I could only make it one page long. But this is what I feel like sometimes :) I love you mom! So how do you think the story should end?
A. Shauna will forget about it and act like nothing happened
B. Shauna will make up with her mom
C. Shauna will stay mad at her mom until she gives her what she wants *insert eye-roll*
